The FFO organizes, operates, and communicates to all families and faculty the many Sunrise, CFSD, and community programs and events. We also generate funding to support the vibrant learning environment and our programs and events.
All FFO Meeting Agendas & Minutes are available for public review in our online archive.
In this issue:
Thank you Sunrise Drive community for your donations to Spirit of Sunrise! This school year your donations funded Kore chairs, the Kindergarten playground, artists-in-residence, along with field trips to Tucson Village Farms and the Reid Park Zoo. These are just a few of the amazing opportunities you made possible through your donations!
The money you share makes many extra-curricular possibilities available to our students! Please see the Grants At Work section below to see how donations were recently spent.
You can make a donation through sunriseffo.org/donate or the your custom link below to the MySchoolAnywhere store. The suggested amount is $50 per student; however, any amount is appreciated and all donations are tax deductible. Thank you!
– Deborah Ardolino, VP of Development
Grants at Work!
The FFO grants program presents an important opportunity for staff and parents to work together to benefit the entire Sunrise community. By using FFO funds, we can expand Sunrise’s ability to meet specific educational needs of our children by paying for field trips, artists-in-residence, guest authors, the Sunrise Garden, and numerous other special programs for our students.
Teachers, staff, family members and students may submit grant proposals to the Grants Chair who presents them to the FFO executive board for review. Exec-approved proposals are brought to the General FFO Meetings for discussion and a deciding vote.
– Margaret Barber, Grants Chair
What an exciting wonderful year! The children have continued to build language, began to understand Chinese Culture in interactive ways, and participated in inspiring Community Events!
Congratulations to the First Graduating Chinese Immersion Class!
This year will be the first graduating class from Sunrise Chinese Immersion! A special Chinese Naming Ceremony will take place May 21st from 2-3pm in the Sunrise Library for families to celebrate the students accomplishments. We are so proud of you 5th grade CI students!
– Anita McGuire, Chinese Immersion Chair

Yearbooks have arrived!!!
The yearbooks will be distributed to classes the last week of school for the teachers to distribute to students. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who sent in photo submissions through the website for the yearbook, our dedicated yearbook staff of 5th graders, and to the teachers for their help with their homeroom pages and class photos.
This year the 5th grade pages have extra space for autographs, notes to friends, and more!
If you have any questions about yearbook, please contact us at email@example.com.
— Sabrina Romero & Marla Harris, Yearbook Co-chairs
5th Grade Promotion & 4th Grade Volunteers
Fifth Grade Promotion will be held on Wednesday, May 23rd. The ceremony will be held on campus starting promptly at 8:30am, with a light breakfast immediately following. Parking will be a challenge, so if possible, please share a ride with your extended family.
This is your last chance to submit photos of your fifth grader of their time at Sunrise. There will be a video collage of the photos played on the last day of school. The final day to submit photos is this Friday, May 18th! Submit photos taken at Sunrise from K-5 thru the website at sunriseffo.org/promotion.
Attention 4th grade families
Please pay it forward! We are asking 4th grade families to volunteer to set-up and help out at the breakfast and help with checking in guests. This is a tradition that allows the 5th grade families to enjoy the ceremony and breakfast with their student. Signup to help with 5th Grade Promotion with your personal MSA button below:

School Tool Box
Order your child’s box of school supplies from School Tool Box. You can do this online from now until June 15th at schooltoolbox.com.
This year each student will receive their own individual box of school supplies that will be waiting for them in their classroom at Meet Your Teacher night. Five percent (5%) of proceeds are used by the FFO to purchase much needed items for teachers to use in their classrooms!
Six years at Sunrise have flown by for the Colson family. Valorie and I have been volunteers, like many parents and family members, for countless events: from Meet Your Teacher, to Spiders and Cider setup and maze building, to teardown and trash cleanup.
We've counted laps together with volunteers at Steppers every week until the Fun Run at the end, braving the hot, cold, and rainy days in-between. We've been there with volunteers to work shoulder to shoulder at Book Fairs, and Chinese Festivals, and early morning Garden and Campus Cleanups. We listened as students read quietly to us in class, and managed boisterous groups learning to write code, or program robots, or watch eclipses, or carve pumpkins, or travel to canyons!
Sunrise volunteers help all the time! It's impossible to list the names without missing so many. Look to the smiling faces of the volunteer FFO Officers. Look up the Activity Chairs at sunriseffo.org/activity/ who volunteer to organize more than most even realize. Look through the archive of digests and meeting minutes at sunriseffo.org to find their stories.
But why? Why do these people do all these things???
I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, volunteering has been a great way to get to know my daughter, her friends, teachers, staff, and a great big bunch of wonderfully caring people who certainly have the Spirit of Sunrise in their hearts!
Thank you all, for all you do!
P.S. The photo is of Ms. Carton, our amazing art teacher, flanked by Vivi C. and Samantha D., in front of a tiny fraction of the art that Margaret B., Jeff & Amanda S., and manyothers helped put up in the MPR for the Spring Art Gala!
P.P.S. Remember, it's easy to smile and thank a Sunrise volunteer. ;-)
