What: Mathathon is a huge fundraiser for Sunrise with 100% of the proceeds going to the school.

When: January 31 is the Kick-off. See timeline below.

Why: Through Mathathon, Sunrise Drive FFO raises tens of thousands of dollars for field trips, artists-in-residence, Community Garden, 5th grade legacy project and dozens of other campus programs. Our families achieve this while students have fun studying math – it’s a true win/win for Sunrise and students!
How: Students get pledges from family and friends for either(a) each math problem answered correctly on a test they take on March 10, or(b) a flat amount.

  • January 31: Mathathon Kick-off
  • February 3: Mathathon packet with pledge instructions goes home
  • February 3 to March 9: Use test from take-home packet for practice – the more practice the better!
  • March 9: All“Per Problem Pledges” must be received. Flat pledges can still be made after this date
  • March 10:Test day – remember, math is fun! Volunteers needed!
  • March 30: All pledges must be completed online. Any money paid after this date will not be included in the calculation of prizes(though, of course, it will be accepted).

EVERYparticipating student will take home a prize, regardless of the amount they raise. Our goal is 100% participation…let’s set a new record, Sunrise!

Chinese Immersion

New Teacher Spotlight!

Ms.Dong grew up in Ningbo, China. She received her degree at Michigan State University. This is her first year teaching at Sunrise. She teaches 5th grade.

Outside of teaching, Ms.Dong enjoys drawing and playing the violin. A fun fact about her is that she admits she has no sense of direction and gets lost quite easily!

When asked what she likes about Sunrise, she responded,“the wonderful colleagues and nice team.”
